Customs Clearance

Customs clearance involves declaring the contents of cargoes being imported or exported cargo to tax agencies on behalf of shippers and obtaining permission to proceed with said shipment. Our nationally certified customs brokers possess the necessary specialized legal expertise related to customs and security-related laws and regulations to carry out the required procedures.
The majority of items we handle are the products of Kobe Steel and Kobe Steel Group companies as well as raw materials necessary for manufacturing.
As for imports of coal and iron ore used at steelworks and electric power plants, we handle these operations very carefully as they are directly linked to continuing operations.
It is extremely important to focus on compliance when obtaining customs clearances, and we used the opportunity of our acquisition of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status in 2016 to establish our Compliance Promotion System. We have since continued to maintain and improve this system, and enjoy the deep trust of our business partners concerning it.

  1. Case 1

Customs clearance for machines and machine parts

We accept consignments from within and outside Kobe Steel and the Kobelco Group for handling import and export customs procedures related to shipments of machinery and machinery parts. We specialize in customs clearance services related to heavy goods and bulk cargoes and are capable of flexibly responding to the requests of customers to obtain such clearances for cargoes held not only in bonded areas but on vessels and barges as well as permission to store cargo in permitted secondary locations.
In addition, we have implemented a system that compiles data on previously approved import and export declarations for cargo. Utilizing this performance data, we are able to perform more efficient customs clearance procedures by employing an automated system that assigns HS codes to cargo.

Utilizing our plentiful knowledge and experience related to cargo, we uphold all relevant laws and regulations (Security Export Control, etc.) as we work to quickly and properly conduct declaration procedures.

  2. Case 2

Customs clearance for the raw materials needed to produce iron and steel products

We handle customs clearing procedures for raw materials (coal, iron ore, etc.) imported for use at Kobe Steel’s Kakogawa Works and Kobe Electric Power Plant as well as for exports of steel products (wire rods, sheets, heavy plates, etc.).

When raw materials are unloaded from an ocean-going ship, normal import procedures are carried out at such warehouse locations as raw material yards or silos (bonded areas) after unloading, but if a customer requests it, we can acquire permission from the head of a tax agency to conduct these procedures while their cargo is still loaded on an ocean-going vessel (customs clearance for cargo aboard a ship).
Our swift and reliable customs clearance services enable company employees, such as those in charge of loading and unloading at ports and those working as agents for vessels, to support the stable operations of steelworks and other such producers from a logistical perspective.
