Domestic Logistics

Kobelco Logistics provides loading, unloading, and transport for raw materials and steel products to Kobe Steel’s Kakogawa Works and Kobe Wire Rod & Bar Plant.
We make transport more efficient and improve safety, product quality, and customer satisfaction through multimodal logistics management. Using digitized logistical information to provide visualizations of transport and inventory status, we strive to ensure constant and timely information coordination with business partners as well as steel manufacturing and sales teams as we deliver cargo from steelworks and wire rod and bar plants to our business partners.

In marine transport, our fleet of around 50 ships, which includes five owned ships, transports such raw materials as limestone as well as steel products. In addition, we transport steel products to nearby ports via barge. Every year, we transport around 3.5 million tons of products from steelworks and wire rod and bar plants, routing them through facilities across Japan, including four in-house facilities and 62 we hold contracts with, delivering cargo to its destinations.

In inland transport, we ship 800,000 tons of products from steelworks and wire rod and bar plants directly to customers every year. In addition to this, we also make deliveries of cargo from our in-house and consigned facilities to destinations. Transport from plants is handled by our fleet of 160 road vehicles.
In addition, we accept cargo bookings for vehicles’ return journeys after transporting such materials as steel products, making deliveries more efficient and reducing CO₂ emissions.

Utilizing the expertise we have amassed, we specialize in the transport of heavy and large-scale loads and boast an extensive track record encompassing the land and sea transport of railway vehicles, large silos, and plants for use in factories and construction. In addition to proposing new transportation methods that offer improvements on existing methods, we make proposals that take into account the latest regulations and route surveys as well as local rules and requirements.

  1. Case 1

Our inland transportation operations specialize in large and heavy cargo

In inland transport, our area of specialty is the transport of heavy oversized items, namely steel products (pig iron, semi-finished products such as slabs, heavy plates, sheets, wire rods, bars) and industrial products (propellers and other ship parts, construction machinery). Our partner companies provide specialized tilting trailers with beds that can be angled for the transport of heavy plates, and propose transportation plans with the optimal vehicles for safe product transport.

  2. Case 2

A web of domestic transport services for steel products via coastal ships

We mainly transport steel and other such materials from Kobe Steel via coastal ships.
We transport products for customers other than Kobe Steel and provide transportation services across the country, particularly in the Keihin and Nagoya areas.

  3. Case 3

Coastal ship transportation services for iron manufacturing raw materials

We use coastal ships to transport the raw materials (limestone and coke) used in blast furnaces at Kobe Steel’s Kakogawa Works and Kobe Wire Rod & Bar Plant.
We transport raw materials from the Kakogawa Works to other locations around the country, including the Keihin and Chugoku regions.

  4. Case 4

A marine model shift that utilizes RORO ships

We make proposals to our new business partners and provide them with chassis transportation for steel products that uses roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ships to address the “2024 problem” and as part of our response to carbon neutrality.
This has, of course, led to reduced CO₂ emissions, and our customers have informed us of side benefits of our services, with some noting that although transport lead time is longer, the transport process itself is smoother because we are able to secure preparation time for loading and unloading. It is the mission of KOBELCO Logistics to take on the challenge of addressing social issues.
