Overseas Group Companies

The Shanghai Representative Office, having been in operation since April 2006, was dissolved to facilitate the establishment of this local subsidiary as Kobelco Logistics’ first overseas sales base. The company is engaged in the ongoing development of services for transportation within China and logistics for Chinese exports to other Asian countries. These services primarily involve transportation to factories and retailers in Southeast Asia as well as between China and Japan for the Kobe Steel Group, which includes Kobe Steel, Ltd. and Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., as it expands into areas across China.

Furthermore, with the growing number of transportation orders for wire rods, we have been taking a host of measures to improve the quality of our transportation services. These include working with shipping companies to offer guidance to local port operators, renovating warehouse interiors, educating truckers on safety and the proper mindset for success, and standardizing all of our operations.

Kobelco Logistics (Shanghai) is a non-asset based 3PL. The company handles overseas logistics for Kobelco Construction Machinery's complete knock-downs (CKDs), transporting all the components that make up a construction machine for on-site assembly.

In August 2011, we established the Chennai Representative Office, which immediately began handling logistics to support Kobe Steel Group companies and gathering the necessary resources for its upgrade into a local subsidiary. The conversion was completed just as exports of Indian-made construction machinery began.

At present, the subsidiary supports Kobe Steel Group import and export operations, with a focus on exports of completed excavators and cranes. At first, poor road conditions between the local plant and the port made exporting construction machinery exceedingly difficult. Addressing the issue, the company conducted detailed surveys of the roads and provided thorough guidance to its partner companies in order to realize logistics services on par with those in Japan, which is what customers in import countries are looking for.

The local subsidiary is 15% owned by the trading company Shinsho Corporation. Kobelco Logistics India is working to expand sales by harnessing synergies with Shinsho’s functions to support logistics services that facilitate Group companies’ business expansion.

For one import project related to the display of Turkish-made truck-mounted cranes at an exhibition in India, the company arranged integrated transportation encompassing pickup at the Turkish plant through delivery to the exhibition site.
